The existing gross inequity in employment status and social wellbeing of the people particularly between developed and developing countries, as well as within countries are politically, socially and economically unacceptable, and are therefore of common concern.
Many developing counties and the countries in transition are in the midst of painful socio-economic changes. Due to the lack of financial and possibly also of trained human resources, effective employment and social polices are especially difficult to implement.
Nevertheless, the way in which employment and social protection systems are developed, managed and financed has an impact on individual’s social wellbeing. In all these countries the decision-makers depend on experiences of other countries in order to make the decisions which provide the best benefits.
Areas of Expertise
In Finland the main emphasis in social services is to reduce social risks, promote social security and safeguard social rights. The main focus in the social policy lies on the preventive aspect. FCG is proud to be able to share this expertise with other countries.

Resources
Our expertise is based on our solid background in the academic world. The University of Helsinki, being a shareholder in the group, constitutes a large domestic provider of resources. We also co-operate with other universities in Finland through which we can draw on operational expertise in the employment and social sectors.
In addition, a great deal of co-operation takes place between us and the Finnish Ministries, research institutes, private sector entities and individual consultants in Finland and abroad. We operate an extensive consultancy register consisting of more than 1000 individual experts.
